Improving on the phenomenally popular U880 was no easy task. However, at just 17.5mm thick (even thinner than the unbelievably slim U880) and boasting a weight of just 104g (including extended life battery), an intenna, a sexy profile and a classy finish; the U890 is a stunning 3G phone that is certain to be another smash hit! Available in electric blue.

The U890 is a 3G phone, locked to the 3 network. It supports the usual raft of 3G/GSM technologies, including SMS, MMS, Video calling, WAP 2.0, JAVA 2.0, and downloadable content, ranging from games to video and especially music. Like the U880, the U890 ships with a measly 70MB of onboard memory for music playback. Thankfully there’s support for microSD cards, so you can beef this up a touch if you’re not fond of listening to the same selection of songs endlessly. On the subject of music, the U890’s musical support extends to stereo Bluetooth headphones, although the set provided in the box is of the wired variety.

The built in 1.3 megapixel digital camera provides the user with a camera which can rotate 180 degree & allows the user to take shots from all angles. The user can capture photos in detail with the 2 x digital zoom & 1280 x 960 in size. The camera comes with a integrated flash to ensure that the user captures a good shot even in duller environments. The user can select the multi shot options which allows the user to capture nine continuous shots. The landscape mode allows the user to capture photos in landscape as well as in portrait mode. The LG U890 comes with a photo album which the user can store all of their treasured photos in.

Inside, the U890 is virtually the same as the U880, with a good range of features - the kind of things you would expect from a high-spec 3G phone. Highlights include a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash and video camera, plus high quality internal and external displays. The U890 offers enhanced support for music playback. With support for MP3, AAC, Enhanced AAC+, AMR and WAV formats, dedicated exterior music buttons and plenty of memory in the form of a TransFlash memory card slot (expandable to 512 Mbytes), this is an excellent music player device. The U890 supports stereo music via Bluetooth, so you can listen to music wirelessly in full stereo with a pair of compatible headphones.

Philips SHN2500
17 Mar 2010

Weighing in at a hefty US$30, these are by far the cheapest active noise cancelling phones on the market, with or without a pedigree. They are of the canalphone types first popularized by the Sony MDR-EX70s and EX71s. Philips ups this by adding in an active noise cancelling circuitry unit. As you [...]

Panasonic RP-HTX7

Tightness is not a problem with these phones because of the vinyl-wrapped metal headband. This is great because it’s impossible to overextend them–you just bend them back into shape with no trouble.  The Sheckler Signature model of these phones is the least expensive by at least 20 dollars when I bought it (maybe his sponsorship [...]

Sony DR-BT30Q

A great idea or just another pointless use of wireless technology? I?ve spent a few months using the Sony DR-BT30Q stereo Bluetooth headphones, and thought it might be useful for some people for me to post my thoughts on this desirable gadget and my views on the technology behind it. A2DP, more commonly known as Bluetooth [...]
